MonoSpan

MonoSpan ® is the perfect narrow track system, available in a fixed 95.5mm (3.76”) width. It is the right choice for a wide variety of products that fit the human hand, and is used extensively in packaging and product handling applications involving small parts. MonoSpan ® chain has a 51% open design, allowing the chain to be easily washed down while on the conveyor.

Stain resistance and durability are standard features of the entire Designer System ® family of conveyors, due to the use of standard chain links made from white Acetal plastic.

MonoSpan ® chain has a pitch of 25mm (0.98”) and a width of 95.5mm (3.76”). Its minimum centerline turning radius is 457.2mm (18”) for aluminum framing and 533.4mm (21”) for stainless steel framing.

Application flexibility is the key to the Designer System ® line, offering the ability to incorporate multiple curves and elevation changes in one continuous conveyor. With its all-plastic assembly, MonoSpan ® chain is also ideal for running through metal detectors.

MonoSpan ® chain is USDA approved and BISSC certified. Available in materials resistant to most chemicals and constant temperatures ranging from -40°C (-40°F) to 104.4°C (220°F). As a rule of thumb, MonoSpan ® plain chain has a weight of 0.6 lbs. per linear foot, and a load carrying capacity of 15 lbs. per linear foot.

MultiSpan

MultiSpan ® chain is the strongest and most versatile among the Designer System ® family of conveyors. It comes in a variety of configurations to accommodate almost any product handling application in the industry.

MultiSpan ® chain offers exceptional accumulation capabilities due to its edgeless design. This means lower back pressure during accumulation, reducing the likelihood of product damage.

Small parts transport well on MultiSpan ® chain because of its 25mm (0.98”) pitch and compact profile, but its 42% open design still allows for the natural flow-through of liquids and debris.

The unique flexibility of the chain means that combining horizontal curves and elevation changes is no problem for the Designer System ® family of conveyors.

MultiSpan ® chain has a pitch of 25mm (0.98”) and is available in widths ranging from 125.5mm (4.94”) to 1219mm (48”) and beyond, in 30mm (1.18”) increments.

MultiSpan ® chain is USDA approved and BISSC certified. Available in materials resistant to most chemicals and constant temperatures ranging from -40°C (-40°F) to 104.4°C (220°F).

SuperTight

SuperTight chain is a variation of SpanTech’s proven MultiSpan ® conveyor chain. SuperTight is lighter in weight than MultiSpan ® yet is just as strong, and offers the tightest turning radius in the Designer System ® conveyor line.

Initially developed for use with SpanTech’s spiral conveyors, SuperTight works equally well for standard applications, and is ideal when a smaller horizontal turning radius is needed. In many cases SuperTight chain can also be the most economical choice, especially when dealing with chain widths greater than 275.6mm (10.85”).

SuperTight chain has a pitch of 25mm (0.98”) and is available in widths ranging from 95.5mm (3.76”) to 1175.5mm (46.28”) and beyond.

SuperTight chain is USDA Approved and BISSC Certified. Available in materials resistant to most chemicals and constant temperatures ranging from -40°C (-40°F) to 104.4°C (220°F).

MaxiSpan

Providing a 75% open design, MaxiSpan ® chain offers excellent product cooling capabilities. Liquids and debris are able to fall though, generating increased production by minimizing downtime for conveyor cleaning. The open design also means less material is used, resulting in cost savings.

A major advantage of the Designer System ® product line is the ability to combine horizontal curves, inclines, declines, and straight sections in one continuous conveyor, often eliminating transfers. Service and maintenance is simple because the chain can be easily opened in a matter of seconds at any point along the conveyor.

The all-plastic construction of MaxiSpan ® chain makes it perfect for running through metal detectors.

MaxiSpan ® chain has a pitch of 50mm (1.97”) and is available in widths ranging from 209.3mm (8.24”) to 1219mm (48”) and beyond, in 100mm (3.94”) increments. As a rule of thumb, MaxiSpan ® plain chain has a weight of 1.3 lbs. per square foot, and a load carrying capacity of 25 lbs. per square foot.

MaxiSpan ® chain is USDA approved and BISSC certified. Available in materials resistant to most chemicals and constant temperatures ranging from -40°C (-40°F) to 104.4°C (220°F).

Closed Top

The open designs of SpanTech’s MonoSpan ®, MultiSpan ®, and MaxiSpan ® chain types have many advantages in the areas of product cooling and cleanliness, and the fact that less material is used makes them lightweight and economical. But sometimes you need a conveyor chain with a smooth, closed carrying surface, and that’s when SpanTech’s Closed Top chain can be the ideal choice.

Bed Sections

Horizontal curves and vertical bends are both standard capabilities for the Designer System ® family of conveyors. Straights, curves, and elevation changes are combined into a continuous, unbroken path, allowing your product to make turns and inclines without potentially damaging transfer points.

Available in stainless steel, painted steel, or anodized aluminum, the Designer System ® conveyor frame sections are bolted together using stainless steel crossbars. This bolted, modular design makes conveyor assembly quick and easy, while also providing a simple solution for future expansion.

The sides of the frame are sloped for easy drainage of fluids and debris. Optional 50.8mm (2”) diameter holes (portholes) are also available for easy cleaning and washdown.

Every conveyor chain type in the Designer System ® line is contained by the outside edge of the conveyor frame, using a plastic wearstrip to reduce friction and prevent damage. Since the chain always remains captured to the frame, the dimensions remain constant and tension adjustments are eliminated.

Horizontal curves can be manufactured to any degree angle and to any radius which does not exceed the chain’s minimum. Metal detector bed sections, guide rails, chain support rails, drip trays and other accessories are available to accommodate your specific product handling application.

Horizontal Bends

One of the most unique features of the Designer System ® family of conveyors is the horizontal curve. Horizontal curves can be manufactured to any degree angle, at any radius, within the engineering limits. In conjunction with SpanTech’s vertical bends, horizontal curves provide the capability to incorporate a combination of directional turns and elevation changes within a single, continuous conveyor.

Vertical Bends

Elevation changes in a conveyor layout can be accomplished in various ways but the most common method is through the use of vertical bends. The Designer System ® family of conveyors uses molded plastic vertical bends made of high density polypropylene.

Vertical bends have a centerline radius of 400mm (15.75”) and range from 5° to 90° angles, in 1° increments. In conjunction with SpanTech’s horizontal curves, vertical bends provide the capability to incorporate a combination of directional turns and elevation changes within a single, continuous conveyor.

When designing conveyor layouts that include vertical bends for making elevation changes, the following rules of thumb apply:

  • Between a horizontal curve and a vertical bend (elevation change), there should be a straight section greater than or equal to 2 times the chain width. This applies to all conveyors within The Designer System ® family.
  • Drive or Idler assemblies can be attached directly to a vertical bend assembly.
